Operation Christmas Child 2017

Operation Christmas Child 2017

This is just to say thankyou to all those people who helped in any way with our Christmas boxes this year. They were all collected this morning (Wednesday 15th) and the grand total was 113 boxes and £125.00 towards the cost of the transport of them, which is a fantastic effort. This included 62 for girls and 51 for boys, and weighted in favour of the middle age group, which has happened for almost every year we’ve been doing it. But a great result, so thankyou very much to all those who helped in any way.

Many of you may have seen the bad publicity about this operation recently, from the local television news. It appears the gifts being given could be less than unconditional, involving children being asked to come to bible study groups with the promise of a gift. I have done some fairly extensive research on this, and whereas I think this happens with the gifts coming from America, I’m not sure it applies to those from the UK.

However, we have been running this particular operation from All Saints for very many years, probably almost 20, so I do feel it’s time for a change.

The Rotary Club run a similar box appeal for Christmas, so I think that is the one we could offer to be part of for next year. I will have all the details of this nearer the time, but meanwhile many thanks once again to all those who made up a box, and especially to the team who helped sort and pack all the rest of the boxes on Monday.
